Group Explorer v1.5.8

The current version of Group Explorer is version 1.5.8, and it works with Microsoft Windows 95 through XP, provided that you have a DLL file for OpenGL.  Recent versions of Windows (ME, 2000, XP) come with this DLL, so you would only need to get it from Microsoft's web site if you have an old installation.

We distribute Group Explorer simply as a zipped archive, which you can extract into a directory on your machine and get started using immediately; there is no installation or registration procedure.

To get started using the program, consider following some of our online tutorials.  If you are teaching a class in abstract algebra, you may also be interested in browsing the Classroom Resources and Homework Assignments pages.

When exiting the application, if the settings file is read-only, an appropriate error is now displayed, and the program exits normally.  Thanks to Humberto Bortolossi for finding this error.

Group Library

The software downloadable above is an archive containing an executable file (the main program itself) and a list of group files with the extension .gp, which define groups the program can view.

Regardless of whether you wish to upgrade your main program (and regardless of whether there is a newer version than you have) you may wish to browse the Group Library for new entries.

History of earlier versions

I'm not actually sure why you would want an earlier version of Group Explorer, but I'm archiving them on the Project History page because it's useful to be able to track all the versions, changes, improvements and bug fixes over the life of a project.
